Camarillo Airport Approach
and Procedure Study
The Ventura County Department of Airports is conducting an Approach and Procedure Analysis (Study) for Camarillo Airport. This Study is a response to community input received during the County’s Part 150 Noise Compatibility Study for Camarillo Airport. This study focuses on evaluating how aircraft fly into and out of the airport under instrument flight rules, with the goal of identifying possible procedure adjustments that may help reduce aircraft noise. This Study will include technical evaluations, input from aviation experts, public meetings, and coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Join Us! Please join us for the second in a series of three public meetings to review the updated procedures, discuss additional procedures for consideration, connect with the project team, and ask your questions. Your input will be critical as we evaluate options and move toward final recommendations.

VC Dept. of Airports is taking Proposals to
Build Large Jet Hangers at Camarillo Airport
Please Act Now
The Dept of Airports is currently taking proposals to remove 45 small plane hangers at Camarillo airport and build new hangers. The DoA is considering proposals that will replace the small plane hangers with much larger hangers that could house up to 20 jets. If each jet flies twice a week it will result in over 2,000 takeoffs and/or landings a year at Camarillo Airport (CMA). These large jets would make the noise issues currently suffered by the 25% of Camarillo residents that live under the CMA flight path more unbearable than they already are.
There is currently a waiting list for small plane hangers at CMA. Very few Camarillo residents own private jets. Small planes and the private pilots at CMA have long been the heart and soul of our airport. They should have priority over the private jets of wealthy CEO’s and Hollywood celebrities.
Please email or call the elected members of the Camarillo Airport Authority Board, the Camarillo City Council and the VC Board of Supervisors and let them know that this would be extremely detrimental to the quality of life in our community and is unacceptable to our residents. Hangers for jets will benefit the rich hanger owners, companies that lease jets and the wealthy that can afford a private jet. The County of Ventura would get all the profits from the parking storage and fuel sales of the large jets and the residents of Camarillo get nothing except noise and pollution. Our Airport does not need to become a parking lot for luxury jets and a playground for the wealthy at the expense of Camarillo residents.

Scott Barer Elected for Third Term as Camarillo Airport Authority Board Public Member
Scott was the most qualified candidate. He has served in this position for the last 4 years and has done an excellent job representing the interests of Camarillo residents and worked to protect the quality of life in our community. He is a Camarillo Resident. As a private citizen he avidly and publicly opposed the previous administrations attempts to bring full scheduled commercial airline service to CMA. Scott is a past President of the COHOTA (Camarillo Oxnard Hanger Owners and Tenants Association) and has an excellent understanding of the laws and rules of CMA and Aviation in general.
THANKS TO ALL THAT ATTENDED THE MEETING REGARDING THE CAMARILLO AIRPORT APPROACH AND PROCEDURES STUDY
The October 7th meeting was the first of three meetings to be held by the DoA regarding this study. The next is planned for January or February of 2026.
For those who were unable to attend, the presentation and recording are available through the links below and on the Study website.
Next Steps
The project team will continue refining the proposed flight procedures adjustments based on community and stakeholder feedback. Additional potential procedures will also be developed for further consideration. The next public meeting is anticipated to be held in early 2026.

The DoA is making progress on these issues and hopefully the DoA will do all they can to try to protect the quality of life in our neighborhoods.

Letters to the editor: Noticeable increase in jet activity
Ventura County Star, Feb. 16, 2025
Camarillo’s jet traffic is a crisis
The noticeable increase in jet activity at Camarillo Airport has raised concerns not only in Old Town Camarillo but throughout the surrounding community. While pilots are encouraged to adhere to the airport’s curfew, which allows landings at any time and restricts takeoff between midnight and 5 a.m., the airport’s Fly Friendly guidelines are voluntary.
Camarillo Airport is a valuable community asset, playing a critical role in emergency services, supporting first responders, and providing opportunities for recreational pilots and aviation students. However, the rise in private jet operations and violations of the Joint Powers Agreement warrant closer scrutiny.
A corporation listed on the New York Stock Exchange recently acquired hangars at Camarillo Airport, describing it as a general and executive aviation airport serving the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, and situated on a “vital business aviation expansion corridor” between Calabasas and Montecito, which they believe will experience a long-term surge in demand. While Fixed Base Operators (FBOs) like this corporation stand to benefit from the expansion of private jet operations, the community bears the burden of the noise and air pollution they generate. This situation should prompt serious conversations among our city and county leaders.
Ventura County is known for its quality of life, health, and safety — assets that are threatened by increased private jet traffic.
Wealthy jet owners should abide by the Joint Powers Agreement and contribute their fair share to mitigating the impacts on our community. It is essential that our leaders take action to ensure that the future of Camarillo Airport benefits not only private interests but also the residents who call this area home.

Here is an interesting article about Camarillo Airport from the Daily Mail . . .

Fed-up residents of a California city says private jets owned by celebrities and the mega rich are causing misery by flying into their community’s airport day and night to use it as a ‘parking lot’.
Frustrated locals in Camarillo claim planes belonging to A-listers and the uber-wealthy – like Kylie Jenner, Jay-Z, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk – are a huge disruption.
Jenner, for example, has reportedly used the airport in January for a 15-minute flight to and from Los Angeles . . . . .

The VCDoA is looking into many options to mitigate air traffic noise. The Dept. of Airports recently completed a Noise Study and is financing a currently ongoing study to determine if the flight paths arouind CMA can be altered. The table below is a list of ongoing and completed projects.

How the Public and our Planet Subsidize Private Jet Owners
Did You Know:
Private jets make up approximately 1 out of every 6 flights handled by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), but contribute just 2 percent of the taxes that make up the trust fund that primarily funds the FAA.
And:
Private jets emit at least 10 times more pollutants than commercial planes per passenger.

Jet Traffic at CMA Forecast to Jump to Over 400% of Current Levels in Next 20 Years
The currently ongoing noise study for Camarillo Airport by the VCDoA shows that jet and turboprop traffic will increase to more than 4 times its current levels in the next 2 decades. This kind of jet traffic could make life untenable for many Camarillo residents.
In 2022 there were about 12,000 jet/turboprop operations annually at CMA. By 2042 the DoA forecasts over 49,000 operations (see table 2N below). The average daily rate will increase from about 33 operations a day to about 134 a day. This will devastate the ability of residents under or near the flight path to quietly enjoy their homes or their neighborhoods.

Camarillo Airport is becoming the airport of choice for large private jets . . . devastating the quality of life for many Camarillo residents
